I should really learn to check the treadmill before I start running

I was totally thrown off today when I was running - about 5 minutes into my run the treadmill took me from no incline to a level 5 incline! What the fuck, man?! And I didn’t even check the screen initially - I thought I was just going crazy, thinking that my legs now couldn’t handle the same run I was doing fine with this week. When I checked the screen I realised I must have accidentally pressed a program instead of “quick start”.

So I changed the incline… kept running… Then I checked my time to see how I was going when all of a sudden - 20 minutes?! It had surely only been 10, tops?

It dawned on me that I must have resumed somebody else’s workout, not started a fresh one. The gym was pretty empty so the person must have gone home. It was so annoying though, because I had no way of seeing if I was beating the other day’s record. I should have kept going, but I got to about 1.5k and bailed. Grrrrr. At least now I know…

ON THE PLUS SIDE!

Hehehehe omg I love the weights room! :D I’ve been using it for about a week now (plus we do some arm strength in Pilates), and look, boys and girls!

Ever-so-slight gunnage! Hahah to all you experienced lifters out there this must be just heart breakingly dismal, but to me it marks a tiny step in the right direction! It’s only a slight bump but it’s bump nonetheless!

Today I did:

3x10 Machine Flies 11.5kg

3x15 Rear Delts 4.5kg

3x10 Chest Presses 4.5kg (Totally know how to use the bench press machine now. This one is killaH!)

Anyway, I’m going to try and make it to the gym tomorrow morning again so I can give the running another crack, then Sunday is a rest day :)

Gym Happenings of the Day

Running on the treadmill again, trying to get my stamina up…

I was going so well! Last time I ran 2.5k in 17 minutes, today my goal was to either run further, faster, or with an incline. I ended up just trying a whole heap of things on and off. I’d do 9.5kmph for a minute, then bring it back to 9… then I’d do 8kmph with an incline of 1, and so on. At one point I got a kick of adrenaline (heh, my favourite song came on) and sped it up to 10.5kmph - it felt great!

You know what sucked though? I started to feel a bit queasy at the 16 minute mark. Not like I was going to throw up or anything, just… yeah. I pushed through until 17 minutes, then just thought ‘fuck it’, and paused to run to the bathroom. I was fine, I just needed a minute and I splashed my face with water, took a breath etc. I felt like I could have kept going, but when I got back to the treadmill, the stupid thing wiped my stats! Apparently it will only hold a pause for 5 minutes before resetting, and I didn’t realise I’d been gone that long :( Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday morning I’ll run 3k without stopping. Don’t care about the speed, just the distance. That’s the goal.

On the plus side…

I am now officially using the weights room! EVEN WITH GUYS IN IT AND EVERYTHING!

Hahah, why have I been such a ninny? I just think when I go in there, ” Are you trying to pick up? No. You don’t have to impress these people. Just do your thang and try not to glance at just how much they’re bench pressing…”

So I only really know how to use one machine properly, and that’s the flies/rear delts one. Today and the other day I did 3 sets of 11.5kg flies, and 3 sets of 4.5kg rear delts (both sets had 10 reps each). It may not be much but at least I’m doing some strength training now!

Movin’ on up!

Feminist Fitness: Re: Healthy Weight Gain

From sugarncyanide

I’ve been underweight my entire life. I used to completely hate myself, having the opposite problem of most girls when it comes to body-image issues. I’ve finally developed curves and generally love my body the best I can. I want to gain a bit more weight, however, I’m so…

This is so interesting, not to mention eye-opening. Just goes to show how good nutrition is always more important body weight.

Do you ever get those times where you know that your meal is perfectly healthy, within your calorie goal, and well-portioned…
But you just cannot bloody be bothered to count the calories that are in it? Just because you wanna sit down, and just eat it? Yeah. This is me today. Ah well.
#this couscous was off the hook btw
#so was the tomato salsa which i made myself!
#so if you want the recipe don’t be shy to holler at a g

Oh yeah, and here is a quick workout playlist that I promised last night.
It’s not very big, but it’s just a bit of a change from the one I posted ages ago.
I’ll keep posting them as I make new ones - having good music is imperative to a successful workout for me! Leave me suggestions if you have something that works for you :)
ps- C’mon by Tiesto vs Diplo was really good to run to last night! I felt like stopping, but the frequent ‘COME ON!’ throughout the song made me feel like I was being yelled at by a bootcamp instructor. Fantastic!

Update: Canberra Trip, Blood Test Results, and Physio Adventures…

Hello lovely friends! So this is what’s been happening this week…

How did I go with my dilemma

  • Failed. Royally failed. Ok, so do you know what chicken kievs are? I didn’t - so when asked if kievs and potato bake were ok for dinner on the first night I thought, “Well, potato bake is butter, cream, potatoes, and onions… but chicken whatevers sound pretty harmless?”. Of course I would say that anything was fine, I mean, I was first and foremost grateful for their hospitality! Tuns out Chicken Kievs are chicken breasts wrapped around a stick of garlic butter, breaded, then fried… Jesus.
  • Needless to say it was bloody delicious and I ate all of it. We then had cheesecake for dessert, bacon and eggs in the morning, and osso bucco the next night with cheesecake round #2. On the final day, it was insisted that I was taken to the town’s best burger joint to try the local specialty. They were right - best burger of my damn life, but oh my god… Basically none of my tricks worked and I lived solely off clean fruit and vegetables for the next few days. Not to worry though… scales show no damage. Goes to show that one or two indulgence days aren’t so bad so long as they don’t continue that way! All in all, it was a great trip :)

Blood Test Results/Iron Levels

  • Got a call from my doctor to say that my iron levels are BACK ON TRACK! On the downside however, I’m now officially due for my first pap smear. Fuck. That’s on Thursday morning… wish me luck :(
  • At least nothing is physically holding me back from going my hardest now. Except…

First trip to the Physio, and it turns out…

  • I’VE GOT BACK ISSUES! I thought it was a muscle tear or something, but one of my joints is really inflamed and apparently, whenever I feel this annoying catching pain in my lower back, (which happens pretty often when I do certain stretches, especially in pilates), my core muscles are ‘deactivated’, meaning that they’re not building like I want them to!
  • Good news is that there are exercises I can do to release it, and continued pilates classes will eventually fix it and prevent future spine issues.

Speaking of pilates… I’ve got my second class in 20 minutes! Come onnnnnnn progress!
