Wanted to go to boxing tonight, but…
Arghhh I just really don’t want to see this girl! I know her from work, (which is really complicated at the moment. They changed owners without telling me, and now I haven’t been called in for three weeks. Uh, do I still have a job? Awkward) and she makes me feel terrible at work - and even more terrible when I was paired with her at boxing!
I’m left-handed and a bit of a clutz, and I was totally reminded of why I hate team sports - I freak out when angry people are relying on me. In high school it was over-zealous girls who yelled across the soccer field, ‘PASS THE BALL!’, and you can’t kick for shit because it’s your first game so you miss the ball entirely, someone else gets it, and next thing you know they’re staring you down like it’s all your fault you lost their game.
I prefer to go solo when it comes to exercise, thanks.
So holding the pads for this lovely lady while she was throwing punches was very difficult because:
a) Holding pads is difficult, period. There’s an art to it, and it takes time to learn. Especially if you’re a leftie! Especially if it’s your first try!
b) Every time I screwed up, she would groan, huff, and puff. Passive aggression just makes me worse. I knew she wasn’t getting a proper workout because of me and I could feel her resenting me so hard.
I ended up getting a great workout in the end, but dealing with her just makes me really stressed out. I just didn’t want that tonight, or last week. So I just went to the gym instead.
Feeling a bit defeated. I should have just gone, sucked it up. Next time. She might not even be there… Just, ugh. :(

5 Benefits of Hill Running
- Increases aerobic capacity (use less oxygen at increasingly longer distances)
- Improves running economy (use less oxygen to run at a faster pace)
- Increases stamina (enables you to run farther at a given pace)
- Builds strength in glutes, quads and calves
- Improves stride length (from uphill running) & stride frequency (from downhill running)
I wish I could remember where I read it, but apparently hill running is a fantastic way to train for long runs, for all the reasons listed above. It also gives you a great ass.
Gimme dem hills. Seriously. Motivation for City2Surf has increased tenfold.

So I kinda sorta splurged on some Brooks running shoes! I’ve wanted proper running shoes for ages. I was legit running with some trainers Dad got me from Aldi in year 10 because at that point I swore I would never use them except for compulsory school sport. Brooks are seriously the comfiest things out, and really supportive for my feet because I have a slight pelvis misalignment (lol did I ever mention that), and my weight distribution is 40/60 on each foot. weeey.
Here’s to safer, comfier, better runs!

I CAN’T WAIT TO SHOW YOU GUYS MY LATEST IMPULSE BUY
After today’s race, I was feeling mega inspired. Cashed up from a catering job I helped out with yesterday, combined with a discount voucher for Foot Locker I was handed today… Well. I may have to show off my wares a tidbit…
